Cummins GM adapter

http://muskegon.craigslist.org/pts/3772157434.html

Is this the needed piece to make a T400/4L80E mate to a cummins?

I would think so, I know some of the 4BT's that were often found in "bread trucks" had t400's.

and what would be the specs for this 5.9 and trans?

http://southbend.craigslist.org/pts/3827992104.html

It is a 12valve P pump engine, not sure on the HP from the pics, but there's not a huge range on 12v's anyway, 160-215 AFAIK. Trans is most likely a monster sized medium duty truck type, I couldn't tell you what exactly but I believe most of those type trucks use the SAE type bell housing transmissions, in other words , too big for a regular truck.

Luke would be the one to ask, he could most likely tell you how many times the air filters been changed just from the picture :D

GM doesnt have very many bell housings. And Ive never heard of a cummins block plate for BOP or 60* stuff so I would say thats gotta be your piece.

And yes that motor more than likely has a block plate on it for an SAE or SAE2 transmission.

The cummins that used that plate was installed at a slight angle in the frame, if you bolted that to a cummins sitting straight up the trans would be layed over at an angle. The best adapters are the aftermarket units, quite expensive but keep everything aligned and have a much better converter mounting set up than the stock "wave ring"

Yep that bread van adapter clocks it 10*. that wave ring converter adapter they use is only good to about 250hp. A Ppumped 12v can make that by accident. It was designed for a 4B cummins in the bread vans.

That big ford has an Allison in it. Probably a 545. I'd use that WAAAAAY way before a T400.

you diesel guys make me laugh with your knowledge of something I don't have a clue about....amazing...thanks again!

So that big allison is probably hugely wide to fit into a square body then?

No that Allison if it is what I think it is, is about the size of a modern 1000/2000 series Allison. You'd be good to go with whatever it is. They were in tons of yellow busses, and 5ton type trucks. It's not class 8 truck sized gear. Medium duty stuff I'd put in a pickup all day long. I've got 2ton running gear in my pickup right now. I really would use class 8 stuff if I thought I actually get away with it. But its all just too big to fit. I've got a C12 Cat and 13spd double over in my Freightliner that I actually measured up to steal for my superduty, So I could repower the rig with a bigbore engine. I'm a bit ****ed in the head that way.

Allison 1000 is the only auto trans I'll ever admit to liking for a towrig/work truck. Anything else and its stick all the way.

Was wondering with that shifter what exactly it was??? reminds me of a school bus shifter?

Air park for sure. That's what the yellow plunger is. Probably be a drum on the tranny output with an air actuator. That's pretty common. It's not likely to have maxi brake pots on the wheels. But you never know. That shifter is for sure an Allison. I just looked at the pictures finally.

air park wouldnt be a big deal really:dunno: a pinion brake, or one at the tranny tail shaft would work well and be easier than using the E-brake all the time
