Im getting ready to 4 link my truck and build some bumpers, hoop and all sorts of other sillyness. Im pricing out DOM tubing, i'll use 2"od with a .250 wall thickness, cause its relatively easy to find. I'll also be buying HREW but to keep this simple i'll just focus on DOM.
the best price i can find on the net is $18.75 per foot. Can this be right? Nearly $20 a foot? Obviously there are quantity discounts, but even when i priced out four 10' sections the price drop wasnt that great. Then you get to pay freight...ouch.
I called my local steel place (Sims Metal in 95118) and asked for DOM tubing and the guy had no idea what i was talking about. He knew about all sorts of grades of aluminum plate and had a few sizes of pipe but when i asked for cold rolled structial tubing he was at a loss.
Im in the bay area, its not like im asking for this stuff in the middle of the Gobe desert!!!
What are other people paying, and where?
