custom apps & mpg

Well I did not know that the 6.2 was a BBC size block. I was thinking a SBC size altogether. That would change things a bit. And the v-8 converted fieros actually do not appear to be that bad. at www.v8archie.com he has been doing it for almost 20 years now. I still think that an elcamino w/ gooseneck hitch for my trailer and a 6.2 would just be cool. Would have to take pics of my 4x4 crew dually on the trailer w/ elky haulin it. :haha: That'd be quite the photo.

They had diesel el-camino's!!

I remember seeing a few el-camino's with factory diesels, the olds based 260 V8 and 350 cid diesels!--you could order them in monte carlo's too!.

I have seen one camino with a 6.2,but it was 4wd,a camino on a K10 chassis, but I dont see why a 6.2 would not fit in one, they put 454's in them and 500 caddy's,and I think the caddy motor is physically larger overall than the 6.2--and the motor mounts are the same as gas chevy motors, the exhaust manifolds hug the block,so probably no clearence issues---and they did come with 3 or 4 speed manual tranny's from 78-86 too,you just dont see that many of them--it would be easy to convert one with parts from a malibu or monte ss if you had all the pedals and linkage...

There are several sites on the web with diesel conversions, one site I saw had a guy in sweeden putting a 6.2 in his 59 chevy biscayne!--and there are other weird ones too, like the vette tRurty posted about, and a few other ones like a "bandit" Trans Am with one in it!(probably couldnt outrun Beauford T. Justice in that one!)--
I think the diesel is going to be much more popular for the average joes in the future--they get better mileage, are cheaper to run,and last longer than most gas motors, since they know how to make them run quiet and smoke less nowadays, more people are willing to get one than ever before--VW is making more diesels bugs and jettas than gas the past few years, but most of them sell overseas, they are catching on fast here in the U.S. too--I kinda wish I hadnt sold my 86 diesel jetta,43 mpg was nice, especially when youre out of work and have little cash...

Yes I agree. I think that the diesel will make a big change in the auto industry. I will also get into making biodiesel after my house/garage is up. I had heard reports of being able to make that at around $0.63 per gallon. Thats not bad at all!!! And best part is biodiesel runs in any regular diesel and also cleans out tank and lines etc. And is a much better lube for the engine as oposed to reg petro diesel.

Did a little poking around today. Found some weights on a couple vehicles. An elcamino weigh about 3,200 pounds, a vette like the 77 rene gave the link to weighs about 3,600 pounds, and s-10 with a v-conversion done weighs just a little less than the vette about 3,500 pounds at the lightest, and a fiero with a v-8 conversion done weighs about 2,800 pounds. So great mpg possible with custom swap into the elcamino/s-10 or fiero if it is in fact possible to shoehorn the 6.2 in there. Hopefully someday I have the spare $$ to try.
