It's time for me to make some custom bumper's. I am leaning towards the pre-runner type bumpers like Steve's (CK5 Project). If you guy's could do anything different with your final custom bumper's what would you do differently?

Please add pic's... and a list of what material you used. I did a search, and came up with some info. No info on pros/cons though Thank you for any info

this is the one i made rather fast, because i wanted the truck to look better as i was thinking of selling.

thing is great little bit of fender protection, burried the sub and beet the crap out of it and worked wonders

I use 1 3/4 (ithink or 2") X 3 /16 and 1 1/4 x3/16 for the top bar, mounted to 4 x 3/4 plate that is mounted to the frame by 2 inline 1/2 grade 5 bolts each side:saweet:

What I do not like about almost all the custom bumpers(being sold) is how far they stick off the front. I understand why it is I just won't buy one that is that way... I won't buy one either way but yeah.

this is the baddest bumper i've seen on here.. wish i could remember who's it is. :doah: next winters project for me, should have a bender by then...... i like it better than 4x4 iron's version because the prerunner doesn't stick out as much...

Heres mine :D The center is 2"x6"x1/4".The big round stuff is 2" .080" wall pipe. The smaller is 1.25" pipe. The bottom plate is 1/4" with cutouts for a HiLift. The clevis mounts are 1"x2" cold rolled and go all the way throught the bumper and welded front and back. And thats a Corona bottle opener right in the middle.

The biggest thing I think people overlook when building a cool front bumper is making it HiLlift friendly. The main hoop on my bumper is tilted foreward enough so I can ge my HiLift between it and the bumper and with the cutouts the jack isnt gonna fly out and git me

I always liked that blue bumper but where ya gonna stick a jack when ya need to

Something I did add later after I got the winch are the tabs the winch cable is wrapped around. It makes winding up alot of fast when ya dont wanna sit there and reel it all in:p:

Here's some that I have built. Don't really do much anymore - to busy with other stuff.

This one has a Ramsey Patriot 15,000 mounted behind it.

This one has a Ramsey RE12,000 behind it.

And this one has a 2" receiver for a removable winch mount.

Just finishing these on my 73. Still need recovery points welded on, and 4 light brackets just in front of the warn. We cut back the front frame a touch to get a little more approach angle. Don't know if I would change anything yet until I "use" them a little. Used .120 wall. Boy! cost of steel is way up. Good luck with yours.:thumb:

I like mine due to I can tell where the end of the hood is plus makes for a great place to wrap winch cable around from obstacle to obstacle. Still would like to add some tabs to mount a set of lights on. Haven't had no problems with mine and love the way it looks on the truck.
Oh and has the same Ramsey 12000 behind it as well.

Looks better on yours!
