I've been getting parts together for a 347 build for my ford. I know it will most likely require some tuning. I've been thinking of trying to use a more modern GM ECM to run it instead of the antique ford voodoo computer, due to the much more advanced tech and ease of tuning.

I think finding s distributor that would work would be the hardest part, but what ECM? I was thinking of one from a LT1 car due to the fact that they have a distributor and fuel injectors instead of the poppet valve setup on the vortec trucks of the 90s.

I couldn't find the injection section, maybe this would be way more hassle than it would worth. Just more of my brainstorming to keep me sane at work.

I'd go for an Ls1 based system instead, more support and the software to tune is cheaper. I'm sure someone out there has adapted one to a SBF by now.

I'd steer away from Lt1 stuff unless you had a complete setup in front of you ready to go. Lt1's use a distributor (optispark), but it's not like a conventional one. It's driven off the front of the cam dowel. It's expensive (for one even worth using) and they don't like moisture. I think I've seen a few posts (either on thirdgen.org or the Lt1 section of Ls1tech) of someone using a Vortec distributor in place on the opti. I know there are a few factory parts that can be mixed to get a conventional dizzy and still use Lt1 electronics.

I think a megasquirt system or Ls1 pcm would be the easier route to take.

So would the LS PCM be able to be configured to work with a distributor instead of the coil packs?

Maybe I'm just over thinking things again.

Pretty sure he's NOT trying to install a GM distributor into his Ford. He just want to adapt the GM ECM/PCM onto a Ford engine using the Ford sensors and distributor.

I was thinking swapping some of the sensors, to try and keep things simple, along with the PCM. Basicly trick the PCM into thinking is the stock engine still.

If you're going "modern", you won't have a distributor, so I assume you're just talking about ignition system in general. I would say it's easier to go all GM or all Ford with the system.

Or...what if there was a system that was cheap to buy, could run anything, was compatible with FORD ignition systems, could have transmission control added on later and tuned with FREE software? Something just like Megasquirt? You could look through my thread here, even though it wanders. I used an HEI at first, then switched to Ford EDIS later on. http://coloradok5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=181264

You might take a look at Dynamic EFI. It's based on GM TBI computers, but he's modernized the software and capabilities. You could go over to the site and ask him about it.

How antique are we talking? EEC-IV? Take a look at a quarterhorse. Not as capable as some of the GM mods, but not too shabby either.

I want to get one for my '89 351 in my truck. Both to tell it to quit looking for the AIR pump, and to stop the idiotic hold-the-rpms-at-1500 when first cranked cold.
