I'm working on a plan for hydro-assist in the General. I have hydroboost brakes so my plan is to add a second pump so there'll be one for steering and another for brakes.

I have a serpentine belt setup and I plan to mount the second pump where the smog pump would normally be. This will require a custom high pressure feed line to run from the pump to the steering gear.

So I'm wondering, has anyone else ever had custom power steering lines made? Mine would be the new o-ring style. Just wondering if it's possible. :dunno:

I don't know what the new o-ring style is, but if I had to use custom length high pressure hydraulic lines I would get some from surplus center. Here are the ones I used for my hydro assist:

I don't know what size fittings are on your pump or the hydroboost (or whatever your second pump is supplying pressure to). They have all kinds of sizes, lengths, adapters, etc.

Maybe this o-ring thing means you actually will have to use custom made lines :dunno:

Or just a local tractor service center, they can refer you to a local hydraulic shop which can usually make any line you want. Prices are cheap. Should be $1 per foot or so, depending on the hose type you opt for. They can re-use your old metal ends and splice on new hose.

You are loking for the factory-type o-ring fittings for the steering box, yes?

I haven't seen those types in any hydro stores. But they can cut and lengthen a factory type line.

Otherwise they have or can make an adapter so you can run a standard -6 AN like everyone elses hydro assist line. Than if SHTF, some one will have a similar hose. Trail fixes suck with bastard one of parts.

Find a local hydraulic shop and bring them your pump and they can make you any line that you need. Thats what I did when I went to full Hydro.

Thanks for the ideas guys. I hadn't thought about just getting a line extended. Bet that wouldn't be too hard. I know of a hydraulic shop I can check with.

Oh and I'll definitely get 2 made. :doah:

Get the o-ring to -6 adapter. then you can get the field repair fittings like PSC and other hydro companies use. Then get some parker hose and make your own.

The fittings have a piece that slips inside the hose then another that screws onto the inside fiting and clamps around the outside of the hose.

You then only have to carry a length of hose not a complete hose setup.

Cool, I like the sound of that. I had no idea they made that kind of adapter.

Anyobdy know if they are 16mm or 18mm? That's the two choices I found. :dunno:

Cool, thanks! That's probably why I saw them listed together.
