Customized air cleaner

Yes, there was certainly nothing in the service or parts manual about a "flame arrestor". It does seem odd that they'd use metal there, since the stock paper element air filters were used before (and apparently after) that screen assembly was used.

My parts manual lists all the components (temp switches, vacuum motors, etc) that are parts to the air cleaner assembly, with no pictures, but the ONLY piece that I wasn't 100% certain they were talking about was the "deflector". But since I know they have a metal piece welded in, I figure that's what they were talking about.

I'm a little unclear why you'd need a flame arrestor with the stock air intake that was something like 3 feet long though?

Icut mine Left the top piece alone Snorkel? you got a lot of mud bogs and wetlands in ROSWELL?

Harry that set up looks very good. I wish I had the wide oval opening cleaner assembly when I did mine. Mine is pretty rough and redneck but seems to work decently. Factory air cleaner, some 3" PVC pipe, couple 3" rubber plumbing connectors, lil piece of 3" exhaust pipe and dryer vent tube wrapped in dust tape- not in pics. I want to get rid of the dryer tube and replace with something more durable. Just hard to find stuff that all fits together.

On mine anyways, the charcoal "screen" is the inner filter to the regular paper filter. The truck air cleaner hsg may have needed an arrester due to the taller filter element/bigger bomb. That put the opening of the bowl vent, that much further away from the lid. I put in a bowl vent extension and ripped-out the charc. screen.:D
