I have a 2006 Silverado 4x2 and with a fuel pump cut off switch under the dash. The "usual" spot with just a toggle, but i was thinking of something a little different. Since its 4x2 i have that stupid hole on the left side of the dash where the 4x4 selector would be. i was thinking about buying a slector and using that as the switch. Press 4x2 and the truck would run or 4hi or low, something like that. I think it would be great b/c what crook would think to switch it into 4hi to start it! But my question is would this switch work? Would hooking it up be too difficult?

The 4wd switch won't work for 2 reasons. First the switch is only a momentary contact (only connects when held down) and second it isn't a direct connection because the switch is a multiplexing switch. Meaning each switch has an assigned resistance value the transfer case module reecognizes and know which button has been pressed. You would have to modify the switch with a regular push button type of switch hidden behind the panel to make it work. Using a fog light switch would be a lot easier, it would have to be aftermarket, but if it was marked foglights it would be just as effective as long as the thiefs weren't members of CK5.

it's a good idea, in theory. but anyone who is stealing vehicles probably has at least some knowledge of them beyond simply how to pick and hotwire them. i could differentiate between a 2wd and 4wd in a few seconds. stance is a clue, and a check for front drivetrain components (even feeling for an axle shaft in the dark, if needed) takes MAYBE 1-2 seconds. if i was about to steal your truck, that switch would draw my attention since i'd see no reason for it to be there.

i think thats a good idea, but why not run a fuel switch and a battery klil to simplify or complitcate it (however you look at it)

and then if they go oh i found a switch and then flick it they will say **** it once it doesn't start and leave it..

or at least if i was a **** and stole cars, i would.

You could do TWO switches , a momentary for your foot under the carpet , and a rocker switch under the dash . Flip switch , then have to push the momentary while you turn the key :thumb:
