I was looking for the years that are smog exempt in Arizona
Thought it was 78, but not too sure

The e test cuttoff is 68 I think. I think 78 is for cats, but I am not sure.

My Chevy isn't broken, its just out of gas.

In that case, I need to find a pre-78 cab so that I can get my K30 titled and smogged without cats. Anyone in AZ got a cab? Don't care much about the condition. Maybe even an older model so I don't have to worry at all...

Some day: massive cutting, shorter wb and rear overhang.

I think 1 tons were excempt for a couple more years, but I am not for sure on that. But I think once the GVW went past a certain point they got exempted for a few more years, but you might want to call and find out for sure.

In the greater phoenix area (Maricopa County) 67 and newer need emissions.

I was close. I thought it was 68 because I thought my buddies 67 Chevelle, didn't need emissions, but it must have been his 66 Chevy pickup.

BadDog, most 1 tons don't need cats up 'till 86 I belive

My Ford has chevy parts! it's all good!

Mine is an '85 so I guess I should look further into it. All I know is I don't ever want to tow it on a trailer down 40 odd miles of fire roads again.

I wonder how that applies with and 89 TBI 350?

I don't know the law for sure, but they don't really care what's in there for an engine. As long as it passes the sniffer, & has the equipment required for an 85, you should be ok. Only thing you might have problems with is I assume you pulled the vapor recovery stuff off if it even had it? Otherwise I'd assume you still have EGR, should be much more than that.
Worst case you go down there & have it tested, & see what they say you need.
