\'Cut Q-jet Pics.

This shot shows how the main body and boosters are modified. Notice how the exits of the boosters are knife-edged, and the fuel tranfer/emulsion passege is "tear-dropped". This helps keep the air flowing in the right direction, and takes out much of the turbulance in that area. Also, see how the casting-flash is removed from the secondaries.

(gawd, I hope this works)

Re: \'Cut Q-jet Pics.

The goal was to clean up the air-flow, and increase the vaccum signal at the venturi, since a strong signal will allow the carb to accuretly meter fuel flow to changes in airflow (engine-demand). It wil also, break-up the fuel into smaller droplets (atomize better). A atomized fuel will burn faster, more completly, and cleaner. And therefore, make more power, raise MPG, and lower emmisions.

The work shown in the above, should increase primarie air flow by about 30 CFM, and with no loss in booster signal (it acualy pulls harder from the boosters). Unlike Holleys and Carters, where -most- increases in CFM will loose booster signal in the lower RPM ranges.
Primairy air flow on a stock Q-jet should be about 187.5 CFM (about 25% of the total 750 CFM)
This should increase to about 217.5 CFM, not to shabby considering the limited bore of the primaries.

I'd like to claim this idea as my own, but I swiped it from;

Re: \'Cut Q-jet Pics.

Were you able to flow test it to see the improvements?

Re: \'Cut Q-jet Pics.

It hasn't changed much since the last time you saw it Jeff, but It's about too...I need a carb for the rust bucket beater. So I figured I better get after it.

Re: \'Cut Q-jet Pics.

The home-made "flow-bench" box works O.K., but the ol' Kennmore just doesn't have what it takes to get enuff "pull" out of the carb. Any ideas?

Re: \'Cut Q-jet Pics.

Not a problem on helping you. I was just curious what the deal with the pics was all about and now I know.

Re: \'Cut Q-jet Pics.

Thanks again, Wayne. Man..I was about to throw in the towel.

Anyone want a good laugh, check out "Twiz pic test 5" in the test forum. I typed out everyone of those friggin' links, I'm beat...and my button pushing fingers is about to go on strike.

Twiz...welcome to the awesome power of a 'right click'.
As for your flow box...the only thing that comes to mind that sucks real hard is (wait for it)

Twiz,
So this book you are referring to details these modifications specifically for the Quadra-Jet?

Re: \'Cut Q-jet Pics.

Yeah, the book is excelent, it covers mods to intakes, cyl. heads, and carbs (the Q-jet is one of the carbs covered). It's not a rebuliding book, mostly theorys of opperation, testing and modifivcations.

This carb should be hi-perf, anyone that has questions, now is the time to ask, before this disappears into the great wastland of posts.

Re: \'Cut Q-jet Pics.

That is some NICE work. I have a 79 Carb I was going to drop on old Dollar when I get around to rebuilding it. I think I'll have to go pick up some of those tips and do a little of that to it before I install it.
I have also done some reading on the gains by cleaning up the casting. Nothing like cheap HP. Let us know how it does.
