I understand the "how to's" and "why's" of cutting brakes but I'm curious...

Can you use them with a rear axle spool? Will both tires being 100% locked together defeat the purpose of the cutting brakes?

If they are still worth it, which lever assy is best - single lever (activating both together) or a dual lever (independantly activated)? It seems like it wouldn't matter since both tires will lock up so either the cheaper of the 2 or the dual lever if they're the same price.

won't work with a spool. CAN work with a detroit but BEST with an ARB or selectable locker

When you use it w/ a spool you would just drag the whole @ss of the rig. If I were you I would just get 2 manuel line locks & run one for the front & one for the rear. This way you could lock the line lock & drag the rear instead of a high dollar cutting brake.

I going to run a CNC dual hanle one, It is already in the K5 & I like how it works. We were playing w/ it the other day. I decided I would prefer the Dual handle because that way I would not get confused on which brake I was working. The single handle ones are push for one side & pull for the other. On my dual handle I have right handle right brakes & left handle left brake.

Yeah, I knew it would just drag the whole rear end but I wasn't sure if it would prevent me from using the short turning radius. Would the truck still turn dramatically sharper than normal? Or will it just fight itself?

I've heard one guy with a heep say it seems to work best with both rear wheels locked. I'll be curious to see how well yours manuvers Boz.

nvrenuf- You'll notice a heck of a difference in turning. Have a friend with a rear line lock and it spind him round pretty good with both wheels locked. I have a twin stick 205 but have no rear line lock- if the fronts are in mud and I disengage the rear it'll spin round pretty nicely. If the fronts are on dry ground the truck will just lunge forward- obviously.

No brake glazing as the rotors won't be spinning while the brakes are applied.

It will turn shorter because you will be pivoting/dragging the rear. I just don't think you will need a cutting break. In your case a line lock would do the same & would also double as a temporary parking brake. If you were to runn a cutting brake & you pulled one lever both tires would be locked & braked. If you run a line lock both tires would be locked & braked. 2 Jamar line lock are $60ish & one CNC cutting brake is about $140.

I see said the blind man...

I guess I just have to decide if I want to be part of the "Dozen Sticks On The Floor" club like that guy with the orange K5. :pimp:

I don't know that guy, but he has one double-naught K5. He just needs to get off his lazy @ss & finish it. On a side note I heard he got a rather large shipment in from DIY4X yeterday.

Tell you what we need, is a friendly competion to see who can finish first. although I believe mine is much further along than yours.

Ok, first one to be unfinished by 2009 wins! :D
