Can I cut the pipe at the dotted red line in the picture and not worry about anything like exhaust fumes? The pipe in reality is straight down in front of the tank, so I could could cut the pipe so the gases would exit straight into the ground. The reason I ask is because the shock mount answer I'm pursuing would require cutting off the exhaust hanger.

my take, youll increase the odds of getting fumes when the windows open, and it may not be legal in your state. my state says where its a passenger compartment, the pipes must exit past the tail gate. so that would be illeagle in maine. check your laws, and keep the window up.

If the pipe isn't in the way get a new bolt on hanger...install it out of the way and buzz off the original.
