Cutting out Rockers... Replace With square tube??

I used 2x4 tube

Have since used them many times and they worked well, I like that they stick out a inch or so keeps rocks off the body a little better and makes for a better step to get in. I put skateboarding grip tape on them for a little more traction.

On my 86, I used 2x3x.250".... On my 90 I have 2x4x.125"..... Used Rene's method to attach them. They tuck up in and the door bottoms had to be massaged a little to clear them.

There is too much flex between the body and frame if you tried to solidly mount the sliders to both the body and frame. If you just try to mount them to the frame with the stock body there is a large distance between the frame and where the edge of the slider would be to offer any body protection and therefore a large leverage force. This makes it hard to make the mount strong enough or keep it from flexing when you hit it. Also that method puts the slider down too far IMO and loses clearance.

a slider refers to a beefy enough piece of steel tubing, either round, rectangle, or square that can take the punishment of the rockers being slid over large obstacles that will cave in the factory rocker panels. The slider can either be incorporated into the replacement of the rockers themselves, or made to protect the rockers.

Hi, I'm new to this forum and had to ask the question about sliders, just never heard the term before. I am doing a frame off restoration on a 1979 Blazer, so far its been enlightening on the amount of rust that can occur and eat up about 40% of the underbody. So, just got the Frame to the sandblasters and starting to get the parts for the floor and bracing.

It's amazing what you find as you dig into it.
