CV Boot or CV Axle/Joint

I have to fix the CV boot (inner passenger) how do I know whether I should replace the whole cv axle or just replace and repack the broken boot? I have no idea how long the boot has been cracked and not been greased. I did have the complete cv axle replaced less than a year ago. Thanks. John

buy the time you get it out of there. just change the whole shaft assbly.
