Im have a local shop makeup a new cv driveshaft for my blazer. they told me first that my yoke at the transfer case was damaged. 40.00 for a new one. ok no big deal. well they put that on and said that the yoke wouldn't allow the cv joint to be at the transfer case. it would have to be at the rear. Does it matter which end the cv joint is at? all the ones ive ever seen have been at the transfer case. btw its a np205 with a 10bolt rear? now they tell me i need a different yoke at the rear and that it needs to be machined. now my 340.00 drive shaft is up over 500.00. still not that big a deal. just seems to me that i have a fairly common trans and rear and that it shouldnt be this big of a deal. and thoughts comments would be apprieciated

the 1310 cv yoke for a 205 is like 60.00 or so and a 1310 cv driveshaft with a 1350 yoke for the rear end is 275.00 from most driveshaft shops good for 32 degrees driveline angle yea i would say they are ripping you off

I'm with what they said. Why in the world would they tell you the CV needs to be at the axle yoke when you can degree the rear to be pointed directly at the TC? I swear man, people like that piss me off. It's things like that that make it so hard for the average Joe to have anything.

The driveshaft they quoted at 340.00 front yoke at trans 40.00 rear yoke 70.00 machine work???? 30-50 thought that the cv driveshaft at 340.00 was a pretty good price(its a spicer driveshaft)? it just seems odd to me that i need to change out my yokes.

if the cv is at the rear will the driveshaft still work properly?

Nope, the cv needs to go where you have the BEND,
i.e. at the t-case.
I would run away from that place and look for a honest shop.

I used to build driveshafts for a living, and lemme tell ya, this guy is pulling your chain. As long as the U-joint fits in the pinion yoke with no play, and the same at the t-case yoke, there's no reason to replace either one. And secondly, the CV needs to go at the T-case. Even if you ahve to replace your pinion and t-case yokes, there are factory and ater parket parts that are exactly the same as wha you currenly have. They're just stamped with different names, there's absolutely no reason for any type of machining, or turning your driveshaft around. Lastly, 340.00 is a decent price for rebuilding the driveshaft. We used to charge 350.00 for a general rebuild of any CV shaft that included everything except retube, and rear flange/center kit, if they were needed. If you really need to talk to someone over the phone, give Mark a call at Mesa Driveshaft. He's my uncle, owner of the shop. You can reach him mon-fri at (480) 898-1957 7am-5pm (MST).
