hey guys, i found a place that i heard is a real good driveshaft shop, and i need to get my rear CV rebuilt, they said come bring in the shaft tomorrow morning. i dont know what CV joint it is, that is the main reason for bringing it to them. i would just take it apart and figure it out/do it myself but its my DD so i cant just take it apart and take a couple days figure out what i need.o ya and its the PITA nylocked u joints. does anyone know or can guess on a price to have them rebuild my CV?

If you actually haven't broken anything , you can do it yourself at home with a ball kit .

Why is your rear shaft nylocked ?

Any shop built CV for the rear will be running joints with some kind of clip to retain , either internal or external .

You running a Caddy shaft that isn't splined all the way to the end ?

i would rebuild it myself, but i have no idea what CV it is. it was made by driveshafts unlimited and i bought it used. he has no idea what CV it is either. it is splined all the way to the end. so i guess its kind of a mystery shaft. nylocked but splined all the way through...

i just found on advanced drivelines that a CV rebuild is $45 at their shop...so i can only hope its around that plus the cost of u joints.

Thats probably assuming you just need wear items , and no hard parts like a yoke etc .

I blew mine up in Moab , broke several caps , broke the H and bent the slip yoke , cost me a little over 2 bills to fix it when I got home .

BTW , drove home on the spare ....to Arizona :pimp: So use your spare and send yours in or work on it yourself , no spare then shame on you :wink1:

ya, i was just adding it up, new u joints, the center ball thingy kit, labor my guessulator came to $160...but maybe they will be good enough to keep my u joints together, i can hope i dont need anything else....but no...no spare for me, im not that rich:rolleyes: i have plenty of stock shafts...that doesnt help me much though.

I'm not that rich either , most I paid for a spare shaft was 50 bucks for a nice used one . Most are 20 bucks and need a u joint or two .

My spare isn't a CV , its a regular K5 shaft , I'm married and relatively poor

Too much lift for a stock shaft as a spare ? Cut the shaft , sleeve the shaft , weld the shaft until its the right length :thumb:

so i just got back from the shop, and with my sort of luck i dont know why i thought it would be good. i have to get part of my cv replaced. the part connected to the actual driveshaft tube. but i found out i have neapco part number 2-3011 u joints or for spicer its 5-3147x...now does anyone know where i can get CV parts? ive been looking everywhere with no luck.

Just rebuilt the front CV on my truck, got the ball/spring/"bushing" pieces in a CV rebuild kit from Napa, if it helps. That and the u-joints usually take a fair amount of time for the counter people to figure out the right ones. :)

Of course, the Napa I go to is a regional distribution place.

ya, i go to a distribution warehouse too, i worked there, it sucked! but thanks for the link! i couldnt find it on there.
