What is the difference between oval ports and retangluar ports? Is there an advantage for either one? Thanks 'all

they are on the big blocks, oval ports are.....well, oval, and rectangular ports are..... retangular /forums/images/graemlins/doah.gif

im not sure on the performance aspect, but oval seem to be more desirable, for cars though /forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

[/ QUOTE ]Rectangular preform better in the higher RPM band. Oval tend to have better low end torque, or so it seams to me anyways.

So oval would be better offroad because of the low end torque?

Yes, definitely. The smaller oval ports provide for higher intake air velocity at lower RPMs, which improves torque. Rectangular ports (much bigger) are for high rpm operation at the expense of low RPM torque.
