I can't find the location of the breather on my Dana 44.

I found a hole roughly 1/8 in diameter on the topside of the pumpkin behind the diff cover on on the drivers side, the hole isn't tapped. I was certain this was it, but I cleaned it off real good and looked down inside with a flashlight, it only goes down about a centimeter and bottoms out. I put some fluid in there to see if it would escape down into the diff and it just sat there.

No fittings anywhere and I've looked this thing over about 5 times in the last two hours. I did a little research and found that some D44's have the diff breather on the tube, but that's for the rear D44's.

Any advice?

Here's a photo of the hole that I'm referring to:

thats the hole . it was a press in nipple from factory henc no threads.

just tap it to 1/8th pipe as it it .

and its got a baffle inside that's why you cant see in all the way .

prob good time to pop the cover and service the oil . might be full of stuff you don't want in there with no breather hose . plus give you chance to flush any chips out from tapping the hole .

I was thinking the same, that fluids been In there since I've had the truck. What weight fluid?
