I have some questions about some knuckles that I picked up from a dodge 1/2ton (I think it was a Ramcharger). The ones that I have the caliper bolted to the knuckles and not a backing plate like the Chevy ones do. Will this cause a problem or should I not even worry about it? I did search but turned up nothing on the Dodge knuckles only Ford, Chevy, Jeep. Has anyone else seen these or maybe seen some info that will help. I can take pics if that would help.

So if i'm reading this correctly, the dodge knuckle( s ) you got does not have a backing plate (otherwise known as a dust shield)? I took mine off of my chevy knuckles and left them off. Rocks like to get stuck up between the shield and rotor and mess up rotors pretty fast.

JDNobodi: I read that page earlier today and none of the ones that are shown look like mine but there is alot of good info none the less.

Muddytazz: I'm talking about the backing plate that the caliper bolts to on the 3/4ton axle

OK now I feel dumb there is a pic on there. Its under "Dodge late, mid 80's to early 90's Flat top knuckle" those are the ones that I have except no thin areas as the next caption says.

dodge knuckles will not work with chevy brakes. the caliper mounts are different, the rotors are different, the calipers are different. you can swap everything over to dodge stuff or sell the knuckles to someone with a dodge.

You can make a chevy backing plate fit on the dodge knuckles but you will have to do a lot of grinding to the knuckle to make it fit.

Damn it, thats not what I wanted to hear. Would it be worth it to do all the grinding? I can see where it would likely need it. It was a bitch to get these off and it would suck ass to have done all that work for the wrong ones.

you can get good money for them. the last dodge set I sold I got $100 without the machine work to the passenger side.

I normally sell stuff on ebay but I happened to find someone on a local board that was looking for a set. If you got the entire axle it can be worth a bunch. dodge stuff is oddball and not interchangeable with Chevy or ford. the axle shafts are unique in length. If it came with 8 lug hubs they are worth good money. sell the gear set and carrier if its 4.10 or numerically higher.

all I have is the knuckles. I'll give ebay a shot and keep looking for a chevy or ford set. Thanks for the help

please just get a chevy/gmc set. the ford sets will not work either. a jeep set will not work either. the ford ones have a different spindle mount pattern. I forget why the jeep one do not work but they don't. I have parted out dozens of 44's and 10 bolts.

if you get some from a full size jeep, they are identical as the chevy. i have a set of knuckles off a early 80s J10 on my 10 bolt.

yup, sorry about that. the fullsize ones will work, but the cj, yj, tj, xj ones have 5 studs for the spindle instead of 6.

The fullsize ones that I have seen that are the same will not have the holes machined in either knuckle. they steer off the tierod.

thats how mine is, not machined on either side. it gives a cleaner look when only going with crossover, but cost more to go with high steer.
