so i went and had the fluids changed in my axles. it has 4.56 gears front and rear, it has a ff14b and a d44 front. according to the title its a 3500,
the truck does have camper special on it. did they build a 3/4 ton with 4.56 gears and label them as 1 tons? what gives?i never herd of a 1 ton with d44 front i thought for a second maybe it has a beefier rear axle but its just a ff 14b. does a stiff ride and low gears justify a 1 ton rate? by the way its a 77 GMC

im sure its a d44, and i hadnt thought of it being swapped b4 i got it. now i think about it, wouldnt a 77 have a 10b rather than a d44 stock?

nope, my 77 1/2 ton has a d44 under it. thats the year they changed the spindles and bearings. and after that year they went to 10blts. if you know your front wheel bearing part # it should be the long one like LM104949,set45 or somthing like that. 76-73 has the part # set37,set45

1977 is the first year of the D60. im guessing one of two things with your rig. they had some "1 ton" 44's left and used it OR someone swapped out the 60.

As for 4.56 gears, yes that could be factory too. I know that most heavy (3/4 & 1 ton) trucks that came with inline 6 cylinders had 4.56 gears and others may have to as an option.
