I happened to be looking on ebay and say a locker for sale for a d44 out of an 05 Rubicon. Anybody know if they will work with our early model d44s?

I dont know for sure but I doubt it. The heep d44 are morphidite versions and not true D44. At least they are stronger than d30's though.

IIRC the stock lockers in older rubiocns are air lockers built in Japan or somewhere in asia.
They would bolt into a older d44. But Spline counts/axle diameters may be different.
I doubt you can swap the side gears.
Chevy parts into Jeep= good:D
Heep parts into Chevy= bad:(

Rubicon D44's use 7/16" ring gear bolts while all other D44 ring gears use 3/8" ring gear bolts. This means that the holes in the Rubicon carrier will be too big for the 3/8" bolts that your ring gear requires. You could try to find some longer bolts and use washers but that's kinda sketch IMO.

Also, the Rubicon's 4.10 gearsets are "thick" style which means that the carrier is likely the 3.73 and higher carrier.

Oh, and Rubicon D44's use the same 30 spline stuff that most D44's use so no problem there.

Yeah shafts should be the same. That hybrid axle is a true d44 ring/pumpkin and tapers out to 30 outers.

You could always try it depending on how much they want for it. If you can get it cheap its worth good money to the right person.
