I just put new bearings on my d44 carrier and pinion (replaced timken with timken). If I installed the shims the exact same way, how likely is it that the gear pattern will be good? I am having a hard time applying a 40 ft/lb load for the pinion to get a proper read. Any tips on how to do this if my axle is sitting on jackstands in my garage? It is currently assembled hub to hub.

If you simply replaced bearings without changing ratios, there is a VERY good chance that nothing will change.

Always good to check, do you have pictures of your pattern? Sometimes used gears can be tricky, thinning your paint with gear oil helps too.

no pics, like I said I didn't find a way to apply a load...what if I just turned it with no load, does it not show a good pattern?

There needs to be load, jam a rag in between the housing and the ring gear (balled up so it won't get sucked in) and push as hard as you can on it while turning the pinion to take a pattern.

If you're simply replacing bearings nothing should have changed.

Agreed, have done this quite a few times, I have always run patterns after and they have been good solid patterns.

The first two are coast the second drive. Drive is good coat is towards the the toe. That is probably the way it was set from factory.
