i have several low gear sets & a mini & full spool for d44 front. will they work in a d44 rear? if so, what would i find a good 5/6 lug d44 rear end in? i have a friend building a mid 70's gm wagons for a derby & he asked me to drive his last yr car & be his team mate in the derby. i would really like to run a set of 4.88's or even 5.38's in the car i drive but not sure if a d44 rear was ever made that would be wide enuff for a mid 70's gm car..i know our 2nd gen truck 12 bolts work after spring perch are moved. any d44's close to those dimensions, maybe dodge trucks of certain yrs:dunno: tia

Ughh I think j10 jeep pickups from the 70s had dana 44s front and rear. Might be a dana 60 rear though. I know for a fact that Grand Wagoneers had 44s front and rear.

yep...the wagoneers were 6 lug axles too. rare find though...
Cherokee's had d44 rear's while amc owned jeep...check them too.

my neighbors 68 gmc 2wd has a 44 rear stock on leaf springs. 6 lug drum

J10 had D44 rear, J20 had D60 rears.
Early 70's were offset and later 70's were centered.
same with wagoneers of the same era.

thanks for the tips guys, so the front d44 gears will work in a d44 rear. so the hunt is on. anybody else know what else i can rob a d44 rear from, post it up.

The waggy rear was in 2 widths: NT narrow track, and WT wide track.
The J10 all had WT which is pretty close to GM rear width.
The Scout also had a D44 rear but those are NT only they are perfect for Jeeps but not your GM truck or station wagon.

that would be perfect. i didn't know any gm's came w/rear d44's thanks, i wouldn't have looked for 1 in a gm. brakes don't matter, we take rear brakes off and block rear line at the mc, so we can power brake and manuvure around better. just like a front dig since we are usually in reverse
