I'm going to tear down my front D44 HD this weekend and weld up the front diff. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif Can someone out there give me the torque specs I will need. Especially the Carrier Bearing Caps. /forums/images/graemlins/1zhelp.gif

Thanks,

Kevin

do plan on driving this truck on the pavement? ever? If so, I wouldnt weld it.

If he will be driving it in 2wd on pavement it shouldn't make a difference.
Mine has a locker in the front and I don't feel it when I have the hubs unlocked and in 2wd.

This is a trail truck we're building. I'm welding it until I can afford a Detroit for it. Might still go to a D60?? so I don't really want to drop a bunch of money in the axle. So out comes the Buzz Box. /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif

So if your hubs are unlocked, welding the spider gears wouldnt be an issue driving around town?

I'm going to go ahead and say that I don't think Welding the front diff is such a great idea even though I'm doing it. /forums/images/graemlins/ignore.gif If you can afford a locker definately get one. I'm just taking a shortcut right now that I will correct later. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

You can drive on the street with a welded front with no problems with the hunbs unlocked since the wheels are free to turn independently of the drive train. My front driveshaft doesn't spin in 2wd so nothing on the front is turning but the unlocked hubs /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif.
