i swapped in a 44 from my 76 to a 90k5. after i installed my front springs i adjusted my steering and found that the axle wont reach the stops. im sure it did in the 76 cauz the there are marks on the spindles. im in need of a gearbox but wanted to post this first incase the box was the problem. my current box turns almost 5 1/2 turns stop to stop. any ideas?

What did you adjust on your steering? Did you just install the 6 in front springs in your signature?
problem was there b4 and after springs it may have got worse after. i adjusted the draglink so i could at least have equal turns from left to right. i am in need of a new gearbox but wanted to try and found out a box out of a 76 has more turns or if i got other problems

Disconnect your draglink from the steering arm, lift the front end up and make sure you are hitting your stops. If your steering box is messed up, it will be hard to determine exactly what the issue is. most likley its because of the box. I know they are different from the years. 51/2 turns is what the box on my 1978 is. I think that they changed after 1980.

well after researching all the gearbox options i found that other than metric to standard fittings there are no diffrences. so now im on the hunt for a longer pitman arm. longer pitman arm is longer sweep maybe thatll fix my problem. any ideas what'll fit?? stock is just under 6 inches.

I think you just answered your question. is your steering arm stock , or is it raised for a 6" lift ? your drag link should be close to parallel with the ground as possible. the more of an angle its at, the less turning radius you will have. and is there a difference between a 1976 raised arm and a 1990 arm ?

good things to find out /

Yes drag link is square to the ground the raised arm was purchased for a Dana 44. I'm gunna take it to get it aligned maybe to much toe in.
