I plan on running 38-40in tires. I can get a good deal on a 44 and rear 60 w/ the same gearing at a junk yard for $900. I was wondering if i could build up the 44 strong enough to hold up. Using chromemoly axles etc. or am i just wasting my time.

For that kind of $$ you should be able to find a 60/14bff. Espicially if you intend on putting more money into them. I would keep looking.

Pretty much everyone on here will tell you don't put any money (especially that much) into a D44 front if you're planning on tires that big. You should be able to find a D60 front & 14bff for that much if you look hard enough.
