Traced down a d60/14blt combo with 4.10s. The guy wants $1000 for the pair, is this a good price? I don't want to get screwed so what else should I look for?
If they are ready to run for your application, they are a good deal...at least by MI prices. But beware of them needing work, it can add up in a hurry.
If they didnt have teeth missing off the pinion and havent been sitting full of muddy water or something like that I think you'd be making a good purchase.
If they have an open diff, that would mean you could add an aftermarket locker to it, which I think is a plus. Then you wouldnt need to change carriers to add a locker.
A complete 14FF rear axle is decent shape is worth $100-$200, so basically you are looking at around $800 for the front D60. Prices vary some by location.
If both are complete and decent shape that is a reasonable deal.
IMO the price on low pinion 60s has really come down. Have seen a handful sell around here for the $300-500 range and 14FFs go for $100 max. Now these aren't rebuilt or anything so budget a good couple hundred for bearings, seals, etc. Also see 60s go on pbb for around the $5-600 range lately too.
