So I'm going to be changing gears in my D60. I need a new carier. I want to put a Detroit locker in, but I can't afford to buy new axle shafts, a locker and gears and be able to go wheeling this year. So what I'm wondering, is there really THAT much of a strength difference between a 30 spline 4340 and a 35 spline 4340 D60 axle shaft?

What I'm wanting to do is buy the locker and gears and run my stock axle shafts this year. Then next winter buy aftermarket 30 spline 4340 axles. Does this seem reasonable or a waste of money? This setup would also allow me to carry my old stock axle shafts as spares once I get the aftermarket ones.

what conditions do you wheel under? tire size? power puting down? you are talking rear axle right?

I can't tell you "35 splines are **% stronger".

Mostly trail riding, so a mix of rocks and mud. Stock 350. Front axle. The tires are 44" TSL's.

Is this a front or rear D60? The front 60 is a 35 spline inner... The outers are the 30 spline and has nothing to do with the locker spline count.

Doh! Ok, then that answers my question...and I'm stupid. I guess it's not an issue. Thanks.

with 44s? get every last spline you can get...
