first, ive got an extra set of d60 backing plates sitting around and was wondering if anybody had tried putting 60 calipers and pads (and rotors?) on a 14b for disc conversion? is that going to be "too much" stopping power?

second, has anybody used 205 ebrake kit? if i did end trying to do the 60 calipers, id need to go with the 205 kit for inspection purposes. what does everyone think about it? would i have to run a flange or could i use a regular yoke?

thanks

John (nevrenuf) did it on a D70HD rear he narrowed.

I'd have someone like Kert make you a pair of round flanges with the bolt pattern of the D60 caliper mounts. I'm not sure how this would fit as far as the depth of the brackets sitting with the rotors and calipers all fastened together. Seems to be a trial-and-error to see what hits and fits.

I did it on a D70HD but since the housing was cut & narrowed I was able to put things where I wanted them. MEK5 is your man for this, he has done the same thing on an unmodified 14 bolt.

Pics of both our axles are in this thread - http://coloradok5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=197410

As for too much brakes, I doubt it. It seems like bigger calipers would be the way to go to help compensate for big tires. Mine isn't running yet but my only real fear is finding a master cylinder that can keep up.

cool thanks, ill check out that thread. since ive got hydro-boost, i was planning to go with the p30 one and see how that goes.

has anyone messed with the ebrake kit for the 205?

well when i bought my new calipers for my 44 from advance auto they told me it was the same part number for dana 60s...i dont know how that possible...i think i just got some dumba$$ that didnt know what he was talking about...

its cool that you work there but advance auto is my last pick of places to go...to many noobs (thats right) that work there and dont know what they are doing...at least down here...i go to auto zone if they have what i need...then napa is 2nd...ive been to advance like twice in a year...ok im done..

that is my order of parts places too... and that is only cuz autozone is right around the corner... advance is way down the road...through some pain in the arse areas.....

back on topic.... not sure about the d60 calipers but in NJ i was told they will not pass me if I do not have a ebrake at the axles... I was thinking about the 205 ebrake but not now...

advance is literally 2min from my house so its super convenient. autozone and napa are about 30+ min away. i can get anything i want there, and since i work there i work the computers not the noobs so its alot easier to actually get what i need.

haha yeah right james is the noob behide the computer at advance

[hijack] What about those trucks etc. that came OE with driveline p-brakes? Do they make an exception or?[/hijack]

At some point you can have too much rear caliper and you'll have to dial a proportioning valve way down to get it to not lock up in light loaded panic stops.
If RW-ABS worked worth a darn in all conditions & surfaces this would be a good place for it. Too bad that's not the case.

Can't be. Most any 1.5 to 5 ton truck, van, or motorhome with juice brakes uses a driveshaft or pinion brake.

I suppose they could restrict it to a certain GVWR range.

nj is getting so picky... yeah if it was factory you can have it but if not then no.... guy told me he doesnt even think they will pass a shackle flip... so I didnt do one...

they are also saying that if your gmc came in with a drivers side drop d60 front they would fail it... cuz that is for a ford... gm didnt build it that way so it wont pass.... :doah:

they are just getting to be sticklers.... I at some day want mog 416 fast axles under my truck and will have to deal with them at that point...

Excellent point  !

That's why I want to go with hydroboost eventually.

When I go to Rockwells, I'll also swap tires and go with my Michelin 395/85R 20's. And I'll need serious brakes then, too.
