I found an add for someone who has a dana 60 axle out of a Kaiser m715. He says it is closed knuckle. Is this something to stay away from?

Pretty much, yep. They had 30 spline inners, 19 spline outers, small u-joints and weak knuckles. Oh yeah, drum brakes too.
