Ok, Im buying the crossover steering setup with the bolt in brace for the steering box. Does it matter what year steering box the 2wd box comes from? I do not want to pay the $350 for the one from ORD when I know i can probably get one at the u pull it yard for $50. Any comments on which one in particular I should grab? Thanks guys.

The year is going to depend on the year of your rig. 73-80 1st design use flare fitting hoses and 80-87 (91 blazer and burb) 2nd design use O-ring style hoses.

Dude, i was asking relatively the same thing a few days ago and the best advise i got was this.........

If you have a good 4WD box on your truck now, just pull the sector shaft and swap it. Just unbolt the 4 bolts on the top of the steering box and pull the sector shaft and cover off. Make sure the steering wheel is pointed straight ahead.

since mine still works good im just gonna suck it up and find a decent sector shaft and keep the box i have.

Dead on. Go with the 2nd design if possible, esp if you have hydro boost. Id rather pay the 50 or so for a used box than messing around swaping the shafts. If the box ends up being no good, then id consider the shaft swap or just a rebuild.

Well cool. That should help save some money. I just ordered my cross over steering setup from ORD, and my steering box brace. Now I just need to track a 2wd sector shaft down:-)

I see a lot of sm465's in your rigs. I am getting ready to swap one in place of my th350. I have all the parts and trans in my garage, but I must admit that it looks like a daunting task, the linkage and pedal mostly. Any suggestions?

Its very strait forward as long as you have the correct combination of parts. ex. flywheel, pressure plate, pedal assembly. It is more than worth the effort, you wont regret it. The linage is fine for mud and street, but if you plan on twisting it up, go hydro, it will save you allot of issues with linkage coming apart.

I hate rocks, the only time my truck see's them is if they are on the trail, and there is no way around them. Also I have everything out of a same year truck that swapped to an auto. Linkage, pedals, brand new flywheel w/ centerforce clutch etc. All of the parts just look a little intimidating, the pedal install mostly. But I bet that just like everything else on this truck, when I get into it, it will probably wont be that bad.
