Is there any reason that the C's and tubes could not be swapped side-to-side on a Ford HP D60 so it could be run on a passenger drop Chevy?

I would say very doable. Nice thing about the Ford 60 is they are not machined for the two spring plate studs or the spring pad. Rather they have spring pads and equal length u-bolts like a rear axle.

Wasn't the spring perch cast into the diff? And wouldn't flipping the diff put that spring perch on the wrong side? Just did a google search and found this pic:

Looks like a spring perch is welded on to the other side.

Not talking about "flipping" the dif. I am asking about removing the axle tubes and C's and then switching them (long tube moved from right side to the left side). I have seen people remove C's to shorten the tubes, but have not heard of removing the tubes and swapping sides.

if me i would see the lack of spring perch on now pass side.

and remove and press in tubes not a easy job .

if it was me just get a new center section thats better and newer with more beef built in to it.

then 2 new tubes and reid ( dedenbear ) inner c"s and be done with it.

then you will have a super heavy duty housing in the end.

Someone on pirate just did this to a 10 bolt. He was on a budget, got it for free, and had the tools and means to swap the tubes so he did. Came out really nice.

He also said that pressing the tubes back in was no joke. Think he said it took almost 50 tons and heat.

Make sure to use a case spreader or something to prevent crushing your housing, when pushin them back in.

You certainly could, though I don't think the tubes lengths are the same as Chevy stuff.

An AWFUL lot of work, I'd be doing a 9" with D60 outers if I were going to that much work.

Extreme 4x4 did a 14bff and used D60 Cs and knuckles. However, they did not remove the tubes from the pumpkin. Pretty stout, but crappy ground clearance.

If you need something that stout. Clearance isn't really the issue.

Nope, I've never swapped tubes side to side. Closest I've gotten to that operation is shortening a long tube for a narrower application.
