How does one remove said bearing?

I have access to a press, but AutoZone, Advanced Auto, and O'Reilly all tried to give me a slide hammer or ball joint press when I asked for a bearing seperator.

I should have printed this out and brought it with me.

Prolly wouldn't have helped. :dunno:

Any tips on how to get something between the head of the pinion and the bearing so I can press the bearing off? I don't need the bearing to survive, but I would like the slinger and pinion to escape unharmed.

I used a bearing splitter like that shown in your picture. The trouble is that you want to clamp it under the bearing and not the slinger when you press the pinion out. Don't try and press the slinger out along with the bearing or it'll bend the slinger.

The tool in your pic is right. It's beveled in the center, around the hole, to get under the bearing lip. Press away!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, I built a scary contraption out of thin wall angle iron. I don't recomend it, but it worked. :o
