The TRE came loose and wore the taper out. Should I weld & re-taper, replace or drill for heim? The truck is occasionally street driven.

ive seen a lot of guys run heim joints for their TREs but some say not too cause they wear out, but then again, u see them being used on 4 link ends. i was actually looking into running heims, i think i might...

on a tie rod heims won't have to move too much , its not a real flexy spot , the ball will just rotate mostly in its socket . The ends I have on my hand me down setup have over 4 years on those , and they are not loose at all .

Looks like heims are a heck of a lot cheaper than a new knuckle or even stock TRE.

Take the knuckle off, send it to Kert, have him weld the taper back out and redrill it to factory specs again.

He can do this. He did a Dodge steering arm for me.

I found a good NOS knuckle on ebay for a good price.

Heims shouldn't be mounted in single shear like that, the right way to do single shear mounts is with a taper (like the factory tie rod end setup).

And IME, heims wear out quickly. Not a great option for steering end links IMO but lots of people have success with them.

ya,thats what im on the fence with, but im leaning more to just a beefy tie rod that can accept a popular TRE so i can replace it cheap and fast when i do...
