Had to change the pinion seal on the front D60, everything went fine except I noticed after tightening the nut (using a rattle gun) the driveshaft was harder to turn, is that normal?

Upon further inspection, the rubber lip of the seal was rubbing against the yoke. Seal was installed correctly, is it possible I got the wrong one from Napa? Hmmmm, back to the parts store....

there is a tourqe sec for the pinion nut :deal:

NOT just good-n-tight with the impact gun :doah:

you should never use a impact or hammering device on bearings . as the impact action will mar the surface and cut the bearing service life in half . hug problem why unit wheel bearings fail so much with guys just hammering down the axle or c/v shaft nut .

I hear ya, torque to 250lbs, I have a 300lb impact gun and didn't hammer down on it. Searched a bunch on here before changing the seal, seems a lot of people use an impact wrench :dunno:

Appreciate it man! Just got back from Napa, seals didn't match up, lip on the first one I had stuck out another 1/8th of an inch, weird

1 think I don't like on napa is smalls like bearings and seals and such over the years is they have jumped supplyers a lot. so lots of mix-n-match .

but other stuff is good. we as good old wrench turning people need to stop and look at the stuff offered to us we buy . I buy from 3-4 different places to get the best quality for the whole job .
