hey, I have a d60 front in my m1009 k5, and something is definately wrong. Today, i went for a quick dip in a small mud hole i made last year. the hole gets deep, (swallows the 37"s) and then has a few railroad ties on the embankment out. I went through just fine, slow and steady with no problems through the rr ties. i went to go through the hole in the opposite direction, and ran into a problem. it was a little sloppy, bout a foot deep when my front tires hit the first tie, and i just couldn't get over it. I looked out my window, and noticed my left front tire wasn't spinning at all. i had a real hard time even reversing out of the hole. i'm thinking i broke something the first time through, but I'm pretty new to 4x4's, so i'm hoping somebody has some insight.

i got the axle from a guy that said he got it out of another cucv. i don't know if it was a 1008, or 1028. he said it has a locker, but i don't really know.

thanks

open diff looks like this first pic .

then power lock looks like second pic.

last factory option trac lock aka trash lock weak unit.

easy way to tell for sure is look behind the cover. and great time to check and change gear oil .

damn, looks like it's an open diff

looks like i'm locker shoppin, what else do i need/should buy to do the job right?

it's a 35 spline, right?

35 inners is correct. and i would at min get a set of shims for the carrier and new carrier bearings all this if full detroit or others like i pictured.

lots of guys here have run powertrax i think it is locker that fits in the middle and replaces the spider gears.

oh ya and 4.10 - down and 4.56 - up is the split on dana 60 carriers.

if that is a true m1008 axle its 4.56 gears.

ya, i checked the numbers on the ring gear, and it's 4:56. must be out of a 1008, cause the 1028 had a locker i think.

I wanna set it up right. never done diff work, but i'm sure i can handle it. I just like to do everything once, so if while doing the locker, there are other weak links that can be upgraded/replaced, I definately want to. my ring/pinion looks good, and i'm happy with the 4:56 ratio, so i'll leave that alone, but should i look into anything else?

i'll probably go with the detroit, but i'm considering the ox.
