First off, I know that the search feature works and I will use it often as I embark on this new venture.

History: I have 28 years of half and 3/4 ton chevy front end experience but have never done anything with one tons. I just purchased a D60 front diff. and will be installing it in the burb. I have a few questions.

Are the calipers on my 10 bolt the same as the D60?

Will I have to lengthen or shorten the d-shaft?

Is the front d-shaft u-joint the same or different?

I see that the springs are attached differently. Where do I get the hardware for mounting this thing?

What is the lingo for the "ball joints?"

What is the best selectable locker for the D60?

Are there axle tube seals that go near the ends of the tubes?

What did I not ask that I need to know?

I know that this is the best place to ask these questions and admit that I have not searched for any of them yet. If you want to give me crap for being lazy, I will put my flame suit on. After the flaming, hopefully y'all can shed some light on this project for me. Thanks.

I will awnser this to the best of my knowlage.

No

No

Same

Use the stock spring plates or buy aftermarket.

Balljoints if it has ball joints, king pins if it has king pins

Your choice, I went with an ARB.

No (not on a chevy 60)

How to use the search feature.:deal:

J/k :D
I may be wrong, but most are correct. If I am wrong hopefully someone will chime in.

I had an 84 3/4 ton chevy that had a 10 bolt up front, got a 60 and swapped it in. The truck already had a 6" lift on it. I rebuilt the 60 and put it in, didn't change a thing. The brakelines bolted to the 60 calipers, shocks bolted on, driveshaft, steering, everything. Make sure you get the spring plates for the 60 as they are (at least the pass side) is specific to a Dana 60 out of a GM truck. The driver side is no biggy, same as D44 and 10 bolt...

Swapped my 10 bolt out this past weekend with a D60 and the driveshaft worked just fine. I have a K10, but suspect all the measurements from the cab forward on the burb would be the same. U joint is the same. Make sure you have U bolts to secure the joint vice the straps on the 10B. Will need either the spring plates that came with the D60 donor or buy some aftermarket. Got mine from Greatlakeoffroad.com. You'll need new Ubolts as well as two studs or bolts for the pass side. Calipers are different, but brake lines will work fine.

Are the calipers on my 10 bolt the same as the D60?

No the 10 bolt calipers are smaller

Will I have to lengthen or shorten the d-shaft?

Prolly not, but you never know till it is in the truck.

Is the front d-shaft u-joint the same or different?

Chevy 60's came stock w/ a 1310 just like the 1/2 tons, so if you are all stock now, it should be the same.

I see that the springs are attached differently. Where do I get the hardware for mounting this thing?

E-bay or here in the WTB section for stock. DIY4x for aftermarket. GO stock if you want to retain the factory sway.

What is the lingo for the "ball joints?"

If you have a chevy 60 it should have king pins. There is a cone on the top w/ a delron type bushing & a large spring. The bottom has a pin & tapered roller bearing.

What is the best selectable locker for the D60?

I run a detroit, so I don't know. I would prolly buy an ARB if I wanted selectable.

Are there axle tube seals that go near the ends of the tubes?

Not stock, but there is a company called MADD that sells some aftermarket. The stock ones are at the carrier, just like you 10 bolt.

What did I not ask that I need to know?

Death Wobble (DW) sucks!

Hope that helps. I just cannot believe some folks are too lazy to search though. :D

Yes, these comments are very helpful.

What about the spindle nuts? Will the D44/10 bolt socket work or do I need to get a new one for the D60?

And what grade are the passenger side spring pad bolts?

I picked it up the axles today (D60 and 14bff). Pulled the covers and found 4.10 gears. The D60 is open and the 14bff is locked. I have some pics and some questions. In the first one, there is a block on the driver's side that the steering arm is bolted to. This does not seem like the best way to account for a lift. Is there such thing as a D60 raised steering arm like you can get for a D44 of 10 bolt? The second pic is of the 14 bolt. What do these #s mean?

Since the gear ratio in the D60 is the same that I am running now, I plan on:
new brakes
new axle u-joints
bearing pack
Warn Premium hubs

Then bolt it up and turn it loose!
