I have searched here & pirate 4x4 threads and found some info on this fix but no good pics. Has anyone done this fix? It looks like using a big U bolt puts it at an angle which I don't like. A straight path would have it running right up ontop of the dif cover bolt heads. Over on pirate one guy made a plate mounted to the bottom of the axle and used Square U bolts pointing up, nice method but loses ground clearence by just a bit. Anyone have a method you have used that works? If not I will think of something. Thanks.

couldn't you just Heli-coil it?

It looks like one side has been heli coiled already. That hole still looks ...ok. The other hole is the now stripped hole. I was thinking of going to a 3/4 tapped hole and stug. Just slot the spring plate with a 3/4 slot. I just like the idea of a U bolt. No threads to strip, other then the U bolt which is WAY easier to replace.

i know on the oru solid axle swap kit for 88-up when you use a ford axle thay tell you not to use the ford plates. go to round under the axle ubolts.

and on the 1 in question thay tell you to take a die grinder and cut a u shaped slot in the lower web to hold and index the ubolt around the pumkin.

i dont know if you have room or not like this.

edit found pics on there site. http://www.offroadunlimited.com/orustore/pc/pdf_guide/ORU_60010.pdf

I had a hole in my D60 that was stripped when i got it and a friend and i machined the hole for a much larger thread then made an insert and pinned the insert so that it couldn't move and then drilled and tapped the insert for 5/8" - 11 to bring it back to the proper size.
