I picked up some allthread, nylock nuts, and flat washers to replace the bolts that are too long and way too many stacked washers for my pass side spring plate...

I see regularly enough people breaking the bolts off into the housing and never want to have to deal with that mess. Whats a guy to do to the threads before inserting the studs into the housing?
Anti-seize , blue , or red loctite, maybe whale gizz?

What kind of all thread are we talking about? They do make actual studs that can be used for that application IIRC. As far as all thread , if it's something picked up at home depot or somewhere like that, I really don't think that it would be of a high enough grade/ strength to use for this application.

Yeah just regular old allthread. I know they sell studs made by superlift that are coarse on the diff side and fine thread at the spring plate side. I was talking with trevor at WFO and he showed the studs to me and said 9 times out of 10 the studs are too short for lift springs, and that they regularly use just standard allthread. Sounds ok to me, most u bolts aren't fancy grade or anything.:dunno:

To my knowledge most u bolts are generally grade 8 stuff at least, that's why I asked. For some reason I thought I remembered seeing somewhere that the studs could be bought through ARP in different lengths, I could be wrong. My concern is that I have seen some pretty poorly made all thread before.

Ubolts are grade 5. They are designed to stretch and deform the threads to help lock the nut in place, this is why you don't reuse ubolts. I'm pretty sure the studs are harder though because that locking mechanism doesn't really apply to them...I personally wouldn't run anything less than grade 8 for the stud because of how big of a pain it is to damage one in the housing.

Any good spring shop you have locally is going to have studs in many different sizes. My local shop literally has an 8' tall shelving unit on the wall with about 200 compartments of different studs. I believe they are rolled thread and a very hard metal probably similar to what we all use for steering arms.

I use anti-seize on the studs always. I have never had an issue with the studs backing out when they are torqued properly. You should use some sort of lube on there though or you will need to use more torque to get proper clamping force. I personally think loctite would be a bad idea but there's always different schools of thought on that stuff :)

u-bolts 5/8 up are grd 8 rod.

and DO NOT USE ALL TREAD in this place.

and i have never seen a broken bolt in person in my time with 4x4 dana 60 trucks over 10 years. only few here and there on the internet from stupid people not watching the thread length.

and get the real stud kit if you realy want studs.

also the stock bolts are grd 8 bolts.
