Kind of a weird question here, but I ordered a big tie rod end from Rock Auto for my D60, it's the one that really IS the tie rod. It showed up without the parts kit containing the boot, zerk and castle nut. They won't/can't send out just this parts kit, so I can either mail back the whole thing (PITA) or they will reimburse me if I can buy the parts myself. Of course no place lists the boots for sale except aftermarket things like Energy Suspension or Daystar. Has anyone had luck with aftermarket dust boots? I'm suspicious because I can't seem to find anyplace that says for sure what part # for this application. I don't want some universal fit thing to end up popping off. :dunno:

Have a set of pro Thanes I got off eBay on mine, they seemed a bit to tall. But they have been on there a couple years and holding strong.

This might not answer all of your questions but I just bought some through classicparts.com for my 82 1 ton crew cab (Dana 60 front). This is what I ordered: http://www.classicparts.com/1947-91-Tie-Rod-End-Boots-Polyurethane/productinfo/76-005B/#.Uks5f4wo6Uk . They sent Prothane brand boots. They weren't to expensive ($4.50 for two boots) and they seem to fit pretty well. Possibly a little tight. I haven't had them on long enough to give you a long-term report but they seem to work.... I used the same boots for both ends of the tie rod and both ends of the steering rod.
