Quick question, I'm installing my D60 and I'm looking for some info on the passenger side top plate where the axle meets the spring. There's one u-bolt on that side and the other uses regular bolts. When you do this conversion, do I just need to locate a 4wd 1-ton and steal the top plate out of it, or would a piece of flat stock work? Also, if using flat stock, what size? The NON-compressed top-of-spring-to-housing measurement is 3/8"

On the crossover steer conversion. I'm basically at ground zero. My axle has no steering comp on it and the old box won't work. Ideas/tricks/"heads-ups?"

Thanks

No, but on the 10 bolt that came out, it used two U-bolts that went around the axle housing itself. On the D60 one bolt goes around the tube and the other side is bolted into the housing.

I made both sides out of 5/8 plate. As for ideas not much to it just buy a kit from NWF or whoever you want and get yourself a 2wdr steering box.

Did you add anything as far as a "shim" between the housing and the plate on the inner part? (where the two standard bolts go)

D60's use a whole different plate than the D44 and 10 bolt.

Thanks, and that's my point I guess. Is it best to find one out of a 1-ton, or is it just as easy to make something?

You can make them but don't use anything thin as the corners of the plates can bend down when you tighten the nuts. Use at least 1/2" or thicker material.

What'd you do about the gap between the plate and the housing? there's about 3/8" of a gap with no load on the springs.

No spacer. put on plate tighten nuts(it uses studs, not bolts).

You can get new spring plates from DIY 4X4 here

I can't quite remember, but I think I got my new stud kit that includes the two studs, nuts, washers and U-bolt (the u-bolt is differnt from the D44/10 bolt ones) from ORD.

Thanks. I've got a company here in Tulsa that makes really tough u-bolts for a good price that I've got fab'n my bolts.
