The theory is that with no lube passages there is more "meat" in the body of the joint therefore the joint is stronger.

bingo.

my dads old plow truck would twist off greasable ones like butter. non cross drilled cross was much better. if in dout try to put a small screw driver in the hole to go to the center. the non drilled will be 1/4" deep or so and stop. just the amount to hold some grease.

Spicer Life series. 5-806X is the part #. The biggest reason they're stronger than the greasables is cause they're cold forged rather than hot forged. The lack of grease passeges helps I'm sure, but the cold forged part is the most significant.

I just got my set of Longfield 300M's a while back. A bit more than the spicer, a bit less than a CTM. I break it, they replace it. I doubt I'll ever break one (knock on wood) but if I do, it's nice to know it will be replaced for free.

but where can i get the spicers and what is the cheapest i could pay for them i wanted to just go to autozone for 15 bucks but you get 15 dollar quality.

napa's were 44 a pop and (precision ) lifetime warranty
carquest was 46 a pop (neapco ) lifetime
autozone 15 a pop (????) 1 yr warranty

I"ve also bought from him, good seller to deal with.

I got the greasable Spicers because I run alot of mud (open D60/454 auto/39.5's). Never broke a u-jt in 15yrs,I lube them LOTS after every mud run. Just replaced the u-jts about 9 mths ago. If your rock driving greasable may not be an issue, and that extra strength may be a factor. I did read a ujt comparison article a few years ago, and they stress tested ujt's on a torque meter. Failure points on solid and greasable Spicers were within 5% of each other. Not sure if there was a cold forged ujt in the test. Were cold forged solids available 5 yrs ago (about the time of the article)?

It has been almost a year since i bought it and it must be ready for mud blast fathers day weekend . I think i will wind up with spicer's tho seeing as i am going to be spraying around a 150 shot .

Yep , Longfeild 300Ms . There $330 a set to your door and they have a lifetime guarantee, hard to beat.

I hope that some competition for CTM will bring there prices down!

got pictures? that price is high for just a trail rig that isn;t so hardcore yet

Go to Pirate for all the info and pics on the Longfield 300M joint, it's much better than I could do.

As for the "not hardcore" thing , a locked Dana 60 is enough of a reason for a good set of front joints. I have Alloy front inner/outer axles and a blown joint could take out more overpriced stuff!

Jeff

can the same u-joints be used for both 30 and 35 spline outers? or is there like a conversion u-joint for it?
