look cool but pricey

Think so?
I don't, I feel it's money well spent.
You are only as strong as your weakest link.......
Just trying to get rid of those weak links. lol
anyways, not having to buy another joint out ways the cost
I think.

plain ol greaseable BruteForce from autozone for me... $30 each....
works so far and havent broken one of them.... no im not too hard on my truck... but the front / rear detroit and my heavy foot and droppin the clutch doesnt help :haha:

I kinda second that...

however you need a weak link... if you get rid of all the weak links... something nice and pricey becomes your next weak link.... and Id rather change universals than a carrier, pinion, smc465 tranny (due to the bolt down ear cracking right off... seen it done...)

so just plan your weak points... and for me ... universals are cheap so they will continue to be my weakest link

True.. in my case the weak link will be my manual hubs. Since mine needs to see some street duty, I won't be running flanges. I plan to get moly shafts, and I like the factory ears, instead of the jagged broke style.. lol. :wink1:

You make a good pont....
I understand it's nice to have a fuse to let you know when to
shut it down, however, I'm getting tired of changing joints and
axles.
To everyone there own.
Hopefully, I wont have the major breaks that you have mentioned
Cheers
Ryan.

Hmmm, go break an axle joint and then send us pictures of what's left of the axle shaft ears! I have yet to see in person a broken axle joint that did not do enough damage to shaft ears to require replacement of the shaft.

Someone else who sees this my way.
thanx 6.2, felt like I was the only one
who saw the big picture, I'd hate to wreck
my new Yukons:(.
Anyways sorry for highjacking the thread.
carry on.

Agreed. Also, after the joint snaps, and you ruin the axles...and you wipe out the $500 Detroit Locker...and it's not warrantied, you can think, "At least I saved $6 per U-Joint." :D

In the world of hardcore off-roading it's a fairly common occurrence. I believe Warn even states in writing that you should not use a Detroit with their hub fuses (when the let go it's the same effect as an axleshaft or joint breaking).

There was a post over on Pirate where a guy broke a joint and took out his detroit. He tried to get it warranteed and it specifically says it is not covered for damage caused due to axle or joint breakage. It only covers it if the detroit broke on its own.
