d60

Up untill the body style change in 99, so 97 and back, because there wasn't a "super duty" in 98.

but the width went from 32" spring pad to like 36.5 and overall wider. not a bolt under swap like before in 78-79 ford dana 60 axles.

and you will need a ifs tcase or swap a ford case in with some work. and dont forget thay didtched the king pin in he 90's area also and went to ball joint stuff. :(

Balljoint D60's are underrated, there aren't many D60 balljoint failures and the knuckles are stronger than their kingpin cousins, I'd consider it a wash strength-wise.

i change lots of ball joints up here in the north east rust belt. :wink1:

As far as wear and ease of replacement, kingpins might have the edge. It doesn't get much easier than removing four bolts and replacing a bushing and spring.

But balljoints on a D60 usually last what, 80K on average under a heavy ass diesel? Not something I would really worry about.

As for the king pin to ball joints I don't see myself doin anything that wound require the strength of the kingpins. The balls will plenty for me......I hope cuz I pretty much stole this axle. Gotta go pick it up in the morning now I know it will work.
