i'm posting this for a friend since i'm much more often in front of a computer ( /forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif).
Berndog (remember the dude with the flying suburban) is making the big leap to the bbc (454) /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif a well built one at that.
along w/ the monster parts rig he got (i've gotta scan in some pics of this thing; 44s 6.13s) he got a set of dana 70s.
anyone know if there is a x-over application for front?
it's got the like backwards knuckle (tie rod on pinion side)
ball/socket style
anyone think it's worth it?

Closed knuckle 70 fronts are not worth it... The joints are weaker than 60 style u-joints and they weigh a ton.

that's kinda what I thought..... thanks!
there's no conversion for that right??? you'd have to change the axle tube or something.
The thing is fairly f'n old, like from a dump truck or something. looks pretty burley though!

I would imagine you *could* convert it to the open knuckle design but it would cost a lot....although so does a stock 60 /forums/images/graemlins/thinking.gif

Well you could press the tubes out of the dana 70 diff and then put in new tubes and dana 60 inner and outer knuckles and everything else... So basically you have to buy a complete 60 front to rob for it's parts. The only thing different about the dana 70 front open knuckle axles is that they ran 35 spline stub shafts, had the dana 70 center section with a slighly larger ring gear, and had slightly thicker tubes.

[HiJack] what comes with a D70 front? [/HiJack]
