Dabba's First Floor Resto... (Ugh, trying again, Need input! 10/21/12....)

Just wanted to post a quick update. The floor was welded in by someone else, it didnt cost me much since i did everything else but I couldnt figure it out. I already have some rust forming and Ive had enough grinding and repainting. Im going to wire wheel the stuff (its light light rust) and found the rhino liner in a can and make a permanent "mat" so i dont keep chipping the paint with sand and **** from my shoes.

Any advice for this stuff? Or is it just like paint? Good idea? Im going to do the whole cab evetually but, obviously the drivers side needs attention sooner than later.

I don't know about that specific brand, but many bedliners are ... permanent, more so than paint. You can't just use brake fluid or paint thinner to get it off skin or surfaces. Wear disposable rubber gloves, the thin nitrile ones are prolly fine, and BE REALLY CAREFUL what you touch. That sh!t gets *everywhere*, so plan your bathroom breaks around doing the work. There's a famous thread entitled "Herculiner On The Hootus", to give you an idea of what catastrophe can befall you :haha:

NOT ON TO BARE METAL!!!! Rattle can some primer down there first, specifically self etching primer. A couple coats with dry time in between would do you well. Ideally you should put some paint down after the primer before the bedliner too. It's just one more layer of protection before the bedliner goes down.

What you should do is primer then paint and wait till you are ready to do the whole floor to do the bedliner. That way it's all done in one shot and not patched in. Primer itself is porous and will suck up moisture and then rust will come through the metal, so you can't just leave that by itself. Primer needs a top coat to lock out moisture. And don't go with bedliner in a rattle can for a high traffic area. Roll on works well (Herculiner) or there are better DIY spray ons that come in kits with the sprayer and such. Then there's always a pro-job.

Eastwood Tools has some very good tools that you can use to make patch panels with. I would like to have a seam roller and small metal brake. I've got to fix the holes in the floor of my "84 K5, Found some rear panels at LMC. Rear tailgate is rusted and will need to replace the whole thing including the glass.Guess I'll have to get some help with the TG. 72 YO body is just about wore out, would like to finish this and give it to my grandson. Just gave him a 73 Mercedes 220D that runs well. Use to drive it from Pensacola, Fl to Cumming,Ga on a little over 15 gal.s, it only has a little over 340K on it also have a '67 200D with over 470K neither has had a wrench on the engine,it has fins on the back. LONG LIVE THE OIL BURNERS
