Dad's 1978 Chevy K30 Farm Truck

Dad's K30
I found damage to the back of the cab I missed before. Looks like something hit the front of the bed hard, then went through the factory slider window. It has also been resprayed, at least partially at some point.

Looks way better with it washed. So what's the plan? Cummins/Allison swap and keep it 2wd like you mentioned in another thread? Gonna keep the bed or go to a flatbed or service type bed?

Right now I'm looking into what I need for the Cummins swap. I will probably do that as a 2wd to start with. I'm also debating if I want to track down all the 89-91 grill parts or convert it over to the 73-80 front clip. I have all the parts for the early clip on hand. The contraption that donated 1 tons to @cheavyk10 M1009 has a good grill according to the guy parting it out as well. Unfortunately, it is hard to see in pics since it is covered with mud.

Fyi : allison can be changed from 2wd to 4wd or back with out full trans disassemble. Stand on bell housing and swap tail .

:popcorn:Will be following this as I have acquired a crew cab to do a 5.9, T5600 swap. Got a couple projects to move along before I dive into it.

Looks like TN Diesel aka @CrewCab59 is no longer around and his website is dead. So looking at motor mounts, I'm finding two that look identical. I'm not sure if summit is copying the other company or reselling the same parts.

Those are copying Scott’s design. Those unfortunately have the motor too far forward and don’t have enough room for the mechanical fan. It’s pretty universally agreed that electric fans don’t work well on the cummins. Rob bonney fabrication has the best fitting 2wd mounts available and I honestly think that might be the only ones.
Farmstrong just got into the game just a few weeks ago. See if you like his design.

So many people just slap diesel conversions together with electric fans and claim they cool correctly. Only way I ever see that possible is no towing or flat land use only. I'd do everything possible to get a mechanical fan setup in there if you want to actually work the truck.

The reviews on the cheap, summit brackets mentioned moving the stock mount back 1.5" to accommodate the mechanical fan.

I like the Ron Bonney 2wd mounts. They look stout. Although, it makes me question if I'm going to want to do the 4x4 swap first so I'm not redoing expensive parts again later. Or if I should just keep it 2wd.

This is the motor I'm using. 1996 6BT out of a motorhome with 35K miles.

For the transmission, I traded the Allison 4000 transmission for the Allison 1000 from a Chevy Duramax application. I then bought a second 1000 with an SAE bellhousing, wiring harness, and computer. Then found the smaller SAE Cummins adapter to match.

I believe I am going to be cutting out the transmission tunnel. I also have no idea what I'll need to make the shifter work, but it probably won't work with the factory column shift.

I might not be remembering correctly, was that engine out of a pusher motor home? Would/can you need to reverse the fan or did it 'pull' air?
