I have a 2000 f250 powerstroke 2wd single cab stick, that I got for 2800 a little while ago that runs fine, my only problem is it is down rite awful in anything but pavement and its expensive to upgrade. My question is, should I just keep this thing or get a
- 94-98 dodge cummins
- another 7.3 but 4wd
- or fix up another solid axle chevy truck to daily drive
I will be daily driving it up at college but I also need to pull a trailer so I need a truck. Opinions welcome. My budget is about 6000.

why does your daily driver need to be 4wd? and dont you know the golden rule is leave the daily driver stock so you have nothing to worry about lol

Haha that rule is to true. I live in Pa it snows often in the winter, and I make alot of trips back and forth in soupy mud and it gets stuck pretty often.

My daily driver is a 91 c2500 6.2 sm465. Its is the only 2wd I drive. That keeps me from screwing with it too much.

1008 has 4.56's stock, better plan on some 37's to get any highway speed out of it

Thats a good point.
I was also considering putting a 6bt in my k5 and driving it but Im worried towing an 18ft trailer with up to 10,000 pounds could be a problem.

My DD is a 89 Jimmy. 6.2 with 35s and stock gears (for now) its a 20 mpg rig on the highway about 16 in town

I think the 10K trailer precludes a 6.2 rig, although they do make wonderful DD's. My DD is a 83 C1500 with the 6.2. Rides like a caddy, quiet as a church mouse, and regularly gets 22-24 mpg. I'd pull a 4000 lb trailer with it without a second thought, or chuck 3000 lbs in the bed too. Downside is it seats only three. It does remarkably well in the snow as long as I keep about 350 lbs of ballast up against the tailgate. With the ballast I have made it through some very nasty snow here.
