So my rig has always been a DD of sorts but I admit that I live just over a mile away from my old job. Now it looks like we are gonna be moving and most likely I wont have a 1 mile commute anymore. :(

Does anybody else use their truck as a daily driver? I know mine is rare because it runs, and it doesn't have a big block, but what can I do to make it more conducive to downtown Seattle traffic?

:haha::waytogo:

To make it better in downtown Seattle traffic? Lower it to fit in the parking garages? Better brakes to keep from rear-ending people? These rigs aren't really conducive to city driving - although I'm sure people will be getting out of your way! :eek1:

Looking up at a K5 from a Prius will make them think twice about cutting you off - especially if your rig has that good "uninsured look". - which yours does not! :waytogo:

Yikes - the Emerald City won't know what hit them in that beast!

This is true.

Never been to Seattle, but I drive both mine quite a bit in DFW bumper to bumper. If you have a place to park and can afford the gas I wouldn't sweat it. People do tend to get out of the way ,, specially if you give em a little erratic type swerve before you change lanes.

^^^ this is where dually fenders help get peoples attention, they work better than blinkers. LA traffic is stupid and full of azzholes, nobody gives a sh**. :(

if it's going to see more city driving, a gearing change might help. Also, like mentioned, the height and tires might be a bother. Do you have hydro assist?

Tires

Dropping the gearing, witch needs done anyway, and tires, going with a radial instead of the boggers. Thing is if it ultimately not going to work as a go to work truck as well then I'm going to have a hard time justifying it at this point, and I don't want to lose the truck.

I daily drove mine for a year during high school, It was a blast, everyone is scared ****less of it and i was very rarely cut off or honked at. Prius honked at me once because i didnt go when he thought i should have and i neutral dropped it from a moderate rpm into reverse and stopped about 3 inches short of his plastic hood, his face was something like  :haha: . I still drive it to work once a week or so to keep it running good. I avg 8mpg with a 400SB q-jet/th350 33x12.50 3.73 gearing. Not terrible since i mostly keep my foot out of it.

I drove mine 20 miles each way for about 3 months last year in Oahu traffic (which is horrible btw) after I sold my bike and before I bought my camaro. I had a 355/sm465/half tons with 4.88's on 39"TSL's. I had to fill up about every 4 days or so:whistle: Keep in mind if you're thinking about economy, as much as you think you're spending on gas, if you buy another car you have the cost of that PLUS you still have to fill it... I say drive it, you know you don't want to sell it!!!

You know what they say about guys with big carbon-footprints right???::haha:

Depending on how far the commute is, there's no reason you can't daily drive it. I say with the radial tires, and some kind of weather protection it'll be fine. If you have a CA commute 60+ miles, then it's a different story.

true
distance decides the choice
I only have ~30 miles round trip, but some ppl that work in my building drive 40-60miles one way EVERY DAY. gezz

DFS,

You should just WALK to work....it's better for your heart, and will save you from making tough choices about the truck! :D

STORY TIME, so I was in my Metro once and some lifted truck in front of me wasn't going when the light turned green. I beeped my horn. He did the exact same thing to me. Except I was having a very bad day.

I only needed two stitches from breaking his window glass and the look on his face was priceless. Not actually sure if I hit him or not but breaking his window glass and denting the crap out of his door with my knee (which was very sore afterwards) was probably not the best idea I have ever had

I'll be Daily Driving my 6" lifted 454/4L80E/NP205 Crew Cab :crewcab: to work, I don't see what the big deal is...as long as you can afford the fuel costs! :screwy:

I originally traded a 97 tahoe for my blazer. I traded to be my DD. It was fun for the first week. Then it rained and i had fresh running water in the cab. Then it froze and i found all the leaks in the tub.
The whole ordeal lasted about a month before i parked it and bought a real car.

dont get me wrong, i love my blazer, but only on a nice dry summer day.

If I get this gig then it will be outside Seattle and I won't have to deal with city traffic so much, and I'll be running my ass off so the heart thing is covered. If I don't get this job I'm probably gonna have to sell, for a variety of reasons.
