Hey guys I’m installing a Dakota Digital VHX gauge cluster in my 87 Jimmy and can’t figure out how to hook up the VSS. Can someone please give me a hand with this ?
Without knowing what details about your trans/tcase etc I'll just let you know what I'm running.
Np205 output housing modified by ORD to accept a late model tone wheel and pickup. I'm using one of their magnetic pickups as well I believe from a '95 or so as I broke one already.
Now I'll add I'm also using factory ecm/vortec/Ls engine and Allison transmission management so a "Bim" body interface modual ($100) plugs into the "can/Obd2" and reads out my vss/prindle/tach/temp.
Its a 700r4 and whatever transfer case came stock. It has the green Vss box behind the dash I just don’t know what circuit to tap into and send to the spd snd location on the Dakota digital box.
I believe your TBI is obd1 but I'm not sure if it's capable of supporting the bim option. You'd have to check with Dakota.
Imo, it's completely worth the $100 as then you'll be able to display a lot of the data directly from the ecm to the dash. Of course this is if it will work with obd1
Hmm, they've gotta have a mechanical option for earlier TBI. Possibly a electronic drive that mounts in between the vss and sender for the vhx. I'm sure if available it would be at extra cost but I'm sure I've seen these instruments used on TBI before.
I'm also waiting to call them this week after the holiday as I'm having an issue with my bim not turning on after some electrical issues with my engine harness this week. I hope it's not fried
I just saw that you posted you have the green vss box, my bad. I'd imagine you can tap into that, the instructions aren't TBI specific I guess. For that I'd definitely call tech
Ok got it figured out I think, there is a brown wire in the white 3 way connector that goes to the green box. Looks like I need to tap into that circuit.
